Has anyone ever known someone with shingles?

You may have heard that it can be quite distressing. Besides causing fever and blister-like rashes all over the body, what is more concerning is that even after the blisters have healed, some individuals may still experience a lingering burning sensation in the area where the blisters were. This discomfort can persist for 3 to 12 months, impacting the sleep of older individuals and, in some cases, leading to symptoms of depression.
Currently, there is a vaccine to prevent shingles that has been widely used in the elderly population. In 2023, Thailand introduced the Shingrix vaccine, recommended for individuals aged 50 and above. It is administered in two doses, spaced 2 to 6 months apart, and has shown up to 90% effectiveness in preventing both the disease and the lingering burning sensation associated with it. Long-term studies over 7 years have demonstrated an immunity rate of up to 84% in the elderly population.
Common side effects of the vaccine include localized pain at the injection site (78%) and occasionally mild fever.

If you are interested in receiving the Shingrix vaccine in Chiang Mai Wellness Clinic, it is advisable to contact us in advance. If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out through these channels.
